Expert medical opinions and Independent Medical Exams are both medical management tools for those handling a claim. Because Independent Medical Exams require in-person evaluations and are often associated with denial of care, these commonly cause inherent friction with the injured individual and lead to litigation and increased associated legal fees. Expert Medical Opinions are able to provide a complete case review, recommend the most appropriate treatment options and address surgical necessity without direct interaction with the injured worker. The results of the expert medical opinion may be shared with individuals on a case-by-case basis.

BICMD telehealth consultations average 40 minutes of virtual face-to-face time with your selected physician, giving you sufficient time to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
While the choice of doctor is uniquely yours, BICMD uses a matching algorithm to recommend three providers who meet your specific clinical criteria and expertise. From there, you have the opportunity to view each provider’s profile, qualifications, training, and rate, to decide which is the best fit for you.
Now that you have received a second opinion, the choice is yours! Second opinions are often used to confirm whether the original diagnosis and treatment option you received are optimal. Your BICMD expert may agree with your local provider, or may suggest a different course of action based on current literature. You can choose to follow up with your local provider and share your expert report with them, or follow up in person with your BICMD expert.
Yes; because BICMD’s services are defined as educational and informational, consultations are able to occur across state lines as well as internationally. You are able to virtually meet with a doctor regardless of your location.

A BICMD consultation is defined as an educational and informational service and therefore falls outside traditional health insurance. Payment for your appointment will be collected when you finalize your booking through your secure patient portal. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. You should see payment processed within 3-5 business days.
BICMD physicians set their own rates for appointments. Our services start at $350 and vary depending on the service and expert you choose. All services include access to a Virtual Care Facilitator for assistance during the booking process, a telehealth encounter and/or a written second opinion from your expert physician, depending on the service.
Depending on the service you choose, you can meet virtually with a doctor in as little as 2 hours for an on-demand and 48 hours for comprehensive consultations. BICMD Expert Reports are delivered within 5 days of service.
