What is the AEU National Forum?
The AEU National Forum is an annual conference organized by the American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU). The AEU is a leading provider of workers’ compensation for waterfront employers; they are also the program administrator for the American Longshore Mutual Association (ALMA). The conference meets each year and brings together employers, brokers, claims professionals, and safety experts from across the maritime and waterfront industries. Dr. Nwachukwu gave a presentation about how the AEU is working with BICMD to provide Best In Class treatment for employees. His presentation, titled: “Treating Injured Workers Like Professional Athletes” outlined how BICMD started and how it is revolutionizing the worker’s compensation claims process.
What did the NBA “Bubble” teach us about healthcare access?
During the World-wide COVID shut-down in 2020, the NBA Bubble set a gold standard for workplace safety by providing professional athletes with immediate access to top-tier physicians and advanced healthcare. Dr. Nwachukwu was part of that medical team. His presentation at the AEU forum asked: “What if injured maritime industry workers could benefit from the same level of care given in the NBA Bubble?” During his session, he explored how the NBA’s healthcare model can be adapted to improve worker injury management, accelerate recovery, and reduce long-term disability by using the exceptional management and coordination of BICMD.
BICMD transforms workplace injury management:
Drawing on insights from the NBA’s approach, Dr. Nwachukwu demonstrated how elite medical access led to better outcomes for workers in high-risk industries. Through AEU’s partnership with Best In Class MD, these premium services are now available to ALMA members, ensuring that injured workers receive exceptional care. BICMD has a proven track record for helping employees return to work faster and healthier.
